Meet Betsy

My background provides both experience and perspective on the college admissions process.

As the mother of four successful young college graduates, I know personally the challenges that selecting and applying to college can pose to family dynamics, and the value of objective information and support. I grew up on Boston’s North Shore and raised my children on Chicago’s North Shore, learning to thrive among communities of highly educated and successful people. Drawing on an Ivy League background, experience in highly selective schools, and specialized training, I opened my full-time consulting practice to offer the individualized guidance I sought for my own children. I limit my client base so that I can take the time to know your student well – and ensure that the colleges do, too!

I hold a BA (cum laude) from Harvard College, an MA from the University of Chicago, and was awarded a two-year fellowship for graduate study at New York University School of Law. I taught courses at the University of Chicago,

Hunter College and City College in New York. More recently, I earned a graduate Certificate in College Counseling (with distinction) from UCLA and attended the prestigious IECA Summer Training Institute at Swarthmore College. To keep abreast of the newest developments, I participate in national conferences, webinars and other continuing education opportunities. I also regularly visit college campuses (more than 60 in 2019) and talk with college admissions officers and current students. The practical knowledge and experience I gain on these trips allow me to provide the most up-to-date information and perspective for your student, as well as insight into how to tailor an application to best communicate the student’s strengths. This wide exposure means my college lists move beyond the "usual suspects" to hidden gems that can quickly become student favorites.

My professional membership in the Independent Educational Consultants Association and Higher Education Consultants Association add to that first-hand knowledge with access to the insights of consultants from around the world. My active involvement in these professional organizations insures I bring the most up-to-date information to my clients. As an IECA and HECA consultant, I adhere to the highest ethical standards.
